Family owned and operated for more than 80 years, Rice Lumber has developed a strong reputation for quality and service as one of the premier building supply companies in Vermont. It has been a family owned business since Dennison Rice first opened the doors in 1939. The initial mission for the company was to provide top quality building materials for commercial and residential projects. Dennison successfully ran the company until 1970, when Wes Carroll, Deek Brooker, and Fred Disperto purchased the company.

Fast forward fifteen years later, Wes Carroll became the sole owner of Rice Lumber. After years of accomplishment, he decided to step down and allow for the next generation to take over. His three sons, James, Jay and David Carroll purchased the business in 1992 to continue the legacy of the family owned business. Since then, in 2018 Rice Lumber has modernized and relocated. Upgrades such as an expanded showroom, hardware store and state of the art drive-through warehouse allows for Rice Lumber to be a one stop shop. The company is now located adjacent to Shelburne Road up on a higher ledge. While ownership and the physical buildings have changed over the years, the initial mission to provide top quality products to contractors and homeowners still remains the top priority of its owners and employees.
